Challenge

Recovery Alliance Duluth (RAD) is a nonprofit organization developing a recovery community. Their roots grow out of an authentic desire to inspire hope, create connection, and support individuals in recovery. They are comprised from a small (but growing) group of dedicated of individuals, engaged in conversation about what recovery means to each of us on a personal, professional, and community level. The organization and all of their impactful work, however, needed a brand around it. Something that would help share their story and exemplifies the positive mark the RAD team strives to make in the northern Minnesota region.

Concept

When developing a simplistic, meaningful identity for RAD, we turned our focus on the reality of recovery. It's not spring meadows, budding trees or rays of sunshine. It’s hard, it’s messy, and most success stories are bittersweet. In light of that raw reality, we chose to focus on the point at which people decide to turn to recovery and what that means in the story of their life.

Outcome

A semi-colon, the inspiration for the logo design, marks the end of an idea, not the end of a sentence. It’s a simple statement that says, “I’m still here, and my life will be my own from this point forward.” The semi-colon is growing in recognition and is often tattooed as a reminder to survivors of addiction, suicide, abuse and other life-altering events. The semi-colon inside the ‘R’ also resembles an individual, surrounded by the RAD community, represented by a bold and stable ‘R’ filled with a soft and supportive purple gradient. The new identity for the organization has been expanded to all brand materials, apparel and the RAD website. Check it out to see more, and if you or anyone you know is suffering with addiction, please call 218-390-7862 for support.

What they said and how they felt

"Šek Design did an exceptional job of creating our logo and it’s story, which beautifully illustrates the essence of RAD (Recovery Alliance Duluth). It was an amazing experience and we want to convey that to the rest of the world. The brand identity and logo development process created an opportunity for us to articulate our hopes and dreams for the future of recovery support services in the Duluth community and surrounding areas."
