Challenge

Taiga Farm and Seed Co. specialize in seed kits for gardeners and growers in hardiness zones 3 and 4. If you're like us, and didn't know what that meant either, it essentially includes the mountains of Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming; the northern most states of Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan; and upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Although everyone can use their seed kits, this northern region is where their focus is. The Taiga team had the growing side of things set, but they partnered with us to create a representative, earthy brand that would help tell their story.

Concept

The north is a special place with a resiliency that is truly incredible, from deep snowy, cold winters to blazing hot, short summers. We wanted to capture some of that grit and ruggedness required to grow and thrive in the north region within Taiga's branding. In contrast to the grittiness, we also wanted to showcase the bountiful harvest you can except from utilizing Taiga's expertly prepared seed packets and the beauty that comes from growing your own food. Both sides were used as strong inspiration throughout our brand concepting phase.

Outcome

The final brand you see below holds a wonderful balance between beautiful and bountiful and grittiness and rugged. The shovel icon was hand-illustrated to give the design a very earthy, organic feel, while the Taiga workmark is much more elegant and flowy. The juxtaposition of the two come together to holistically represent the company and its unique differentiators. Topped off with the tagline 'cultivate the north', the brand rounds out to bring even more clarity to Taiga's mission. With the brand system in place, Taiga now has a visual language to implement across their website, product packages, marketing materials, and anywhere else the business is present.
