season

Challenge

Every January, Grand Marais Art Colony (GMAC) releases its offerings for the year. This includes their numerous classes across all different types of mediums as well as their residency programs. It's a lot to promote, but vital for the organization to kick start registration for the year. In addition, GMAC choses an overarching theme every year that acts as the focus for all their offerings. So on top of needing to get the information out to people and drive registration, GMAC was also in need for bring their 2023 theme to life across all of their promotional materials for the season.

Concept

Grand Marais Art Colony had been moving through the major four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. For 2023, air was the chosen theme. Being of the mindset that in design, less can truly be more, we were excited to work with air as the theme as we worked to develop a look and feel for all of their season promotional elements. For testing out our concept idea for how the air theme could come to fruition, we first played around applying it to a multi-page mailer. This gave us the most real-estate to really push the theme.

Outcome

You can see below that where we landed included all the necessary information the GMAC team wanted to get across, but we made sure the photography and layout allowed for the theme to really come through. The color pallet we chose was light, and of course, airy. It was different enough to give their 2023 offerings their own feel that still paired really nicely with GMAC's established brand. With alignment on the concept direction, we built out additional promotional pieces, like social media images, banner images, and a print ad. Since GMAC has over a hundred class offerings led by various instructors, we created social media image templates, and accompanying guidelines, that GMAC could use to alter based on the class, its medium, and the instructor. Our goal was to set them up with everything they could need for a successful season!
