It's always fun to mark and celebrate reaching major milestones. Birthdays, anniversaries, reaching a lofty goal. We're here for it all — especially when creating a good design is part of the celebration.

Challenge

The Grand Marais Art Colony was approaching hitting one of those very milestones. A big one in fact. In 2022, the organization would be celebrating its 75th anniversary! And they wanted to commemorate the achievement by creating a specific anniversary graphic. Something that would mark the momentous accomplishment and give recognition to the Colony's history. However, the Grand Marais Art Colony also wanted the design to compliment their existing branding. The anniversary graphic, after all, wouldn't be a new logo, but a new supporting piece that would be used throughout the year in various promotional and communication pieces.

Solution

We created several different design concepts before honing in on the design you see below. The anniversary graphic we landed on is bold and unique while still being clean and readable. During our ideation phase, we tested it to ensure it would fit nicely across the various print and digital pieces it will be used on without being too dominant. The colors chosen for the design coordinate well with Grand Marais Art Colony's current brand but also gives way to a forward-looking approach as the organization brings its attention to the next 75 years.
